Dear Valentine…

We finished up our class valentines this weekend…

The kids were so excited to work on these! And my daughter was ADAMANT about what she wanted, the girl is detailed people.

We took inspiration from a few Pinterest ideas, and tweaked them just a bit. They turned out great and the little Starrs were thrilled! Its so funny, my kids love to see themselves on my blog… their pictures, their names (“What did you say about us? Take a picture of me for your blog mom!”).

So this post is really for them…

Think Twilight series; though I’ve never read them, pretty sure my skin rivals their translucency. With this skin type, its hard to find lipsticks/glosses that look appropriate, especially in the winter. Not too orange, not too light.

It’s a Monday

My camera is broke.

Apparently, Nikon makes their lens mount assembly out of plastic. It cracks easily if you accidentally drop your camera. And the part is backordered for like… ever. Fun. But not fun, because now I have to rely on my iPhone. And the ancient Kodak gathering dust in storage.

I just got the new Photoshop Elements 10. To edit my photos.

Funny how things work.

On the Bright Side…

We (as in the hubby & kids) built a snowman. He melted, completely, in 5 hours. There was also a fort with serious snowballs.

My Kids Sleep In.

Not entirely. They are letting their parents sleep in… !!!!

Every morning we find them in one of their rooms: playing, laughing, ~~fighting like crazy~~ getting along beautifully, allowing us EXTRA SLEEP TIME. Amen.

Now if we could just get the family dog on board with the new morning arrangement.

Door Knobs and Paint Under my Nails

This is one project that should have taken a day. Weekend max. But, as it seems to be the nature of things around here lately, I managed to stretch simple in DRAWN-OUT. Basically, our doorknobs were brass. Scratched, old, tired.

We opted to purchase new oil-rubbed bronze knobs for all the doors, but rather than replace the hinges we simply painted them to match. You can read all about the paint I used and other details in this post HERE.

I drug my feet with the painting. But after weeks, I completed all doors and we FINALLY have a finished product.

Such a simple change, but it makes a bold statement against our white interior doors.

I cannot help but get excited… they are JUST doorknobs… but would you look at those knobs!!! Its makes me all giddy how well they play with the bathroom hardware and paint colors. Perfect simple touch.

It’s the busy season.

Not just the week, or even the month.  

But the stage of LIFE.

Going here.  There.  Everywhere.

To school, to class, errands, and gymnastics.

.

We have homework and housework.

Birthday parties and appointments.

We are stretching time when there isn’t much more room to give.

But beautifully, through it all… we have each other.

In the midst of crazy, we have our calm.

.

We come home, our family of four… to warmth and light.

Nourishment, shelter, and endless love.

And suddenly the rat race disappears.

The table is full.  My heart is bursting.

I am so grateful.

.

But, my heart isn’t always so thankful.

I am mean.  Ugly.  Tired.  Selfish.

The coffee is better hot, before I dress everyone.

I don’t love wiping my dogs snowy paws.

Maybe someone else could put away the laundry.

All too often, I put my wants first.

With relief, I’m forgiven.  And loved.

Reassured by the silly jokes and art on the fridge…

By the Word and my hubby’s great smile.

It may be the busy season, but its good.

A real life, that is really good.

When I posted my home project list for this year, one of the big ticket/big effort items was the fireplace. I would really love to update our dated stone, add something. I see fabulous pictures everywhere… on Pinterest, magazines, blogs. I know the outcomes are within our reach, but it never feels REAL. I like progress photos, proof of how far its come!

1. We are back to school. Boy needed an extra vacation day, but we eventually made a successful return.
2. New markers = nail polish & face paint. Washable = sigh, breathe, smile.
3. Post Christmas destruction… and the beginning of our 2nd Office/Craft Room redo. She shakes her head.
4. Jeni’s ice cream. Love. Love. Need.
5. My new bamboo steamer. Itching to make pork buns people!
6. ZINGO baby! My kids are obsessed; it’s a quick, fun, family game.
7. My fur baby was micro chipped today AND had 4 shots. Sweet thing is wiped out.
8. The boy is obsessed with my phone. Has anyone out there purchased an iPod for their preschoolers? Ridiculous or really good idea????
9. My new hairpiece! (Finns Feathers)
10. She has discovered CS Lewis and not a moment too soon! Loved every minute of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe… and I know we’re behind the times but we finally saw the movie: STUNNING. I must say, I love reading with her each night, the story & excitement just lights up her eyes.

As I attempt to get a jumpstart on my Home Project List, I am trying to list the ‘needed’ items in order of ease and expense. Sometimes, when you accomplish the minors & make the least expensive purchases first… it gives you the necessary boost to start tackling the majors.

The little things that kept reappearing on my list were wall décor items.

Frames, art, shelves, etc.

I have a basic idea of what I want, but the goal this year is:

WHAT WORKS FOR OUR FAMILY .WHAT RELFECTS WHO WE ARE.

Keeping that in mind, here are some ideas…

I love this Shopping List Plaque from Ballard Designs. Fun (and functional) for the kitchen. The items are listed in French, may need to keep my translator handy! The hubby is ALWAYS asking where the shopping list is at… great solution!

Look away vegetarian friends… this is exactly what I’ve been looking for in our kitchen. Art and a reference guide? LOVE. An homage to our passion for food.

I need shelves in our dining room. A set that not only looks great, but are deep enough to hold stem-less wine glasses and accessories. These ones are a bit pricey, but great style.

For my daughter’s room…

She loves all things Barbie and I just happen to have this 2011 Wall Calendar. The prints are by Robert Best, and look perfectly vintage. I’d like to matte/frame four for her walls.

A Christmas Recap :: X-Factor Mania

So we’re on the other side of Christmas… and I love it. There’s something about this time of year: getting ready to take everything down, the promise of a new year, the simplicity of grocery shopping without masses of people and wrapping paper. Its feel fresh, like anything is possible. But before I get ahead of myself, I thought I’d close out December with a good ole photo dump.

We watched Santa arrive in town, had a little visit with the big guy, sang in the preschool program, tolerated our Christmas mouse; and (my personal favorite) endured a late night wrapping session… they hubby even setup a desk!

We unwrapped and unwrapped, till we could unwrap no more!

I ventured out the hubby, my sister, and some friends for the Josh Krajcik/X-Factor watch party at our high school! CRAZY. Loud music, shouting, flashing lights, and complete frenzied excitement! What a fun, fun night! And even though our hometown boy didn’t win… we’re so proud and cannot wait to see what he does next!

Might be hit or miss this week... in between organizing gifts, shelves, and packing away Christmas, we're busy little bees!

Bread for Christmas

Its seems the last few days before Christmas can take a hectic turn, the list grows and the time disappears. We rush to finish the cookies, fudge, wrapping, and trimmings… When in truth, we should be slowing down. Waiting for the arrival of our King. Just wanted to encourage you all to take a moment today and breathe, thank HIM! We are blessed indeed.

I thought I’d share an quick gift for neighbors, friends, family, or teachers. Its an easy bake, no waiting on the bread to rise… just mix and pop it in the oven! I found this bread two years ago from the It’s the Little Things… blog. This bread is beautiful AND delicious. You won’t want to part with a single loaf!

The only thing I do different, is add sparkly sanding sugar in the middle of the baking time.

You can find bread, cake boxes at your nearest craft store (I found mine at Hollos & Pat Catans for you locals). I also wrap the bread in parchment before putting it in the box. Tie it in some twine/raffia/yarn and attach a tag! I found the cutest cardboard tags @ Target, they have just a hint of glitter!

Admittedly, I’m not a big of rodents {remember this?}. The mere thought of four paws scurrying about my house, making mischief and keeping an eye on my family, is spine-tingling.

But when Kris Kringle sends a mouse to monitor the little Starrs’ Christmas behavior, you embrace him. Despite your better judgment.

Painting Brass :: Take 2

All of the interior doors on our first floor have nickel hardware: hinges & handles (with the exception of some oil-rubbed bronze). However, the upstairs & basement were left neglected; fake brass only my friends.

What’s worse?

Months ago, in my erratic state while painting miles of white trim, I left a few smudges on the hinges. Brass hardware with white streaks. CLASS-SSY.

We needed a change, and I happened to catch the amazing hubby in a rare DIY mood…

“Change the door handles to oil-rubbed bronze? Sure.”

What about the hinges?

Replacing them would mean removing all three sets on each door (10 doors), and the actual removal of the doors while they are being traded out. NOT HAPPENING. Spray paint? Not in this episode.

Stroke of Genius.

I used this Rustoleum High Heat paint on my fireplace doors a while back. It was satin black, but looked oil-rubbed bronze. The best part? It painted on the brass like a dream, dried quickly, and left a smooth, matte, rust—repelling finish.

A few quick swipes, and I had the hinges done on three doors. Only 7 more to go! The paint adhered well to the brass. I would recommend lightly sanding first; however, I did NOT on the first set and they turned out great. About 2 coats does the trick.

This beat removing each door, so easy!

The color matches my oil-rubbed bronze hardware on the vanity.

Just need to finish installing the knobs, and this update is…

done and done.

Friday Favorites :: Hodge Podge of Goodness

There were a million silver linings in the dark clouds over our Ohio this week.

Sick kids, errands, a lot of this and a ton of that… but weaved through it all, so much goodness.

My sweet boy has been sick and only slightly irritable…

for entertainment, I gave him the task of taking a picture of things he is thankful for,

and I ♥ what he came up with…

As for me? The favorites I am thankful for…

My favorite bell ringers in all the land.

Grateful that I have a patient husband who smiles despite his son ringing the bells… from his foot.

Highlight of the week.

My mother dear.

She ran over in a pinch to sit with a napping child while I picked up his sister.

Later in the week rode along with us to keep us company.

Cannot take that for granted.

My most generous and handsome hubby.

He may very well be the world’s BEST gift giver… though the material isn’t his focus. He just knows how to bring out a smile. And when Lilly Pulitzer decided to make a print for my college sorority… he deemed it acceptable that I own a bit of that joy (despite the fact that I am long out of college, but who’s counting?) It arrived this week to a very excited ~~teenager~~ thirty-something. :)

Oh, and the hubby did homework duty. With willingness. And grace.

Holiday Season - Decadent Desserts

The abundance of rich dessert recipes this time of the year make deciding ESPECIALLY difficult. How many cheesecakes, tortes, cakes, bars can one possibly bake in 25 days???

This vanilla confection was the final note of our family Thanksgiving. And it was wonderful… with the teeny exception of density. This sleepy baker waited till late in the evening to bake, and subsequently fell asleep during oven time. Five extra minutes under heat will harden a cake. Take note. {Heavy sarcasm intended}

Food & Wine

Vanilla Bean Cake with Salted Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 large eggs
1/4 cup crème fraîche, or sour cream
3 tablespoons vanilla paste; or 1 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
1 cup Salted Caramel Sauce (see recipe below)

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350° and butter and flour a 9-inch round cake pan. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour with the baking powder and salt. My mother-in-law bought me these cake pans, they have slides to lift cake from bottom, keep it from sticking. (The recipe calls for one 9-inch round, but you may split batter and use two if you wish to add a filling in between the layers)

2. In a large bowl, using a handheld electric mixer, beat the butter at medium speed until creamy. Add both sugars and beat until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well between additions, then add the crème fraîche and vanilla (see step 3 if using whole beans).

3. For vanilla beans, cut lengthwise and split open the bean. Using a spoon, scrape out the innards (appetizing, no?) and add to batter. Better than extract, hands down.

4. At medium-low speed, beat in the dry ingredients until smooth and evenly combined. Resist eating all batter. So good, so good, so good.

2. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface. Bake in the center of the oven for about 1 hour, until the cake is golden and springy and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached. Let the cake cool in the pan for 20 minutes. Turn the cake onto a plate then invert onto a rack and let cool.

Thick cake.

3. Poke the top of the cake all over with a skewer and pour the caramel sauce (see recipe below) over the cake, allowing it to seep in and drip down the side. Cut into wedges and serve.

Caramel Sauce – Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
3/4 cup heavy cream
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt, crushed (I left mine ‘whole’)

Directions

1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water and corn syrup and bring to a boil. Using a wet pastry brush, wash down any crystals on the side of the pan. Boil over high heat until a deep amber caramel forms, about 6 minutes.

*Using a wet pastry brush is key. I used one of my bamboo spoons and the sugar crystals clung to it like the death. Maddening to clean, so use the brush & save your sanity.

**The caramel/sugar is HOT. The kind of HOT that takes skin off, making it difficult to use a camera or doing anything for that matter (this explains the lack of pictures).

***You will want to eat the caramel, ALL. OF. IT.

2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully whisk in the cream, butter and salt. Let the caramel cool to room temperature. This sauce can be refrigerated for 2 weeks.

I love this recipe.

Nature Inspired Christmas :: A Tour

I love looking in on other people’s homes (legally, I repeat legally); how they decorate and live, especially at Christmas! I convinced the baby sister to let me tour/photo/share her house in all its holiday glory.

Come on in…

She kept it natural throughout, keeping the focus on the greenery.

Adding bold pops of color and a bit of sparkle.

The Entry

Simple greenery with just enough glitter.

Family Room

The greenery above the window is a combination of loose pine and twisted branches from an old bush.

Kitchen

Oranges with cloves and glitter bulbs add sparkle and warmth to the kitchen.

The red clock is an oversized version of Santa’s pocket watch, with a touch of natural greenery.

Sitting Room

The blue and green bulbs are so cheery with the colorful twinkle lights (a hot topic/non-negotiable for the brother-in-law!!!). Juniper berries in the silver vase keep it nature-inspired.

I ♥ Felt {Ornaments}

I have this little tree in the children’s bathroom.

It sat bare, except for a sad 25 count strand of twinkle lights.

It deserved something.

Using some felt I had on hand, I cut/glued/tied/trashed/cut again… until I came up with a few ornaments I deemed keepers.

The color palette.

If you squint your eyes, do you see snowflakes & pinecones? Ha!

Nothing fancy, just a little whimsical.

(Whimsical is code for rough draft-basic-needs more work)

Bottom line: they work with the ~~love of my life~~ shower curtain

Still in holiday vacation mode around here…

Kiddos aren’t back to school yet (!) With wild children roaming the hallways, covering EVERY INCH of my floor (and mind) with clutter, I didn’t prepare much for today’s post. Good opportunity to do a little bloggy housekeeping…

So, the amazing hubby pointed out the other day that he hadn’t received an email notification for my blog updates in a LOOOONNNNGGG time. Say what? That means no else is either. Christmas Garland

Happy Happy Monday friends!

We got a glimpse of Christmas on Friday. Each year during Winter Wonderland, our city shops unveil their decorated store fronts, offer activities for the kiddos and reindeer viewings. The town Christmas tree is lit and of course there’s the arrival of good ole St. Nick… he is lowered from the rooftops by our local fire department (that’s him up there in the bucket)! Too much fun…

And while we are on the topic of Christmas…

I put together a simple garland last week. A little whimsical, a little eclectic… it fit the bill for my kitchen hallway. It would look adorable in bold colors or even burlap. AND... this is a GREAT craft for kids, make their very own garland!

2 sheets of felt

I traced out circles in various sizes. Cut as many or as little as you like!

Make a small cut in the centers of the circles.

2 yards brown leather string

In no particular order, string on your circles.

I added mine to a vintage inspired snowflake garland I found 50% off at JoAnns. A bit a fun, and something unexpected.

A Holiday Extravaganza

A friend invited a group of us to her church for a bit of fellowship, dessert, and a tour of 68 tables decorated for the holidays! Every table was different and beautiful… what a great way to gather ideas for upcoming holiday dinners and parties! I just had to share some pics!

I painted the Dining Room…

…and the family room. And the trim. And right about then I lost all feeling in my right hand. I love fresh paint, but oh the process!!!

Just to remind you, the before…

And after Valspar Cashmere (colored matched in Sherwin Williams) on top, Dover white on bottom,

Worth the work, but I haven’t had the time to get to the details yet. Maybe some new covers for the throw pillows, accessories, switching out the shades?

The wall with the windows runs along the front of the house into the dining/sitting room. I didn’t want a feature wall, so I ended up painting the entire family room. The Cashmere paint makes our bronze pillows really pop!

It was WORK.

Painting out all the trim, patching holes, removing old hardware… exhausting, people!

We plan to add board and batten treatment to the walls, so I used Dover White in semi-gloss. It is the same finish as the woodwork, makes it seamless.

The overall look has a traditional feel, which is being true to my style. I love the sleek modern out there, but it doesn’t fit with my cottage style home. I debated going with a gray color for the walls… in the end, the warmer green/gray worked well with our furnishings…

…and our Christmas décor! Ha, indeed we did!

When your four year-old has the same sweet smile as your hubby, its hard to say no; and that sweet boy was ready for Christmas… only a few weeks too early! Why not?

A rare Saturday afternoon… football, Angry Birds, a naughty dog, and all my loves in one place. A messy, lazy moment that isn’t edited. But feels perfect.

Jeweled and dressed, ready for the Daddy-Daughter dance.

My girl couldn’t wait to boogie with her main guy. She came home late and flushed, still singing YMCA and begging her father to do the Chicken dance one more time! She is his world and I hope one day she cherishes this moment as much as we do now.

And if this doesn’t have JOY written all over it, then I just do not know!

Can you stand it??? I’d like a Chick-fil-A in house, so when I spotted this at Lowes I felt like dreams really do come true! It would make a perfect addition to our Christmas village.

My Merrills.

Frivolous and completely lacking substance, but they are one of my fave favorites right now. We’re in that Ohio limbo between Fall & the beginning of cooooold… these are comfy, warm, and easy! I love fun shoes, but sometimes comfort reigns supreme.

Oh this sweet boy.

I drug him to Le Walmarte this week, and he gave me a monumental meltdown. For 20 minutes, he wailed & thrashed in a painful checkout line wait. And in those moments, I tried to remember GRACE. Give him the grace my Father gives to me. Love him. Love that despite his preference for superheroes, dinosaurs, and the wild west… he prefers to just be with his mama. Doing ‘girl face paint’ and detailing the most recent Max & Ruby episode.

The Family Dog

We rescued our sweet lab almost one year ago…

She’s gentle, loving, crazy, ornery, anxious, and entirely convinced that she is human. According to my logical hubby, “She’s never seen herself before, she probably thinks she looks like us?”

Holly is our shadow; she lays in the upstairs hallway and

cranks her head into each room as I put away laundry.

Everything that ever was off limits, is assumed to be rightfully hers; the bed, couch, rugs, car… my grey velvet flats.

She is an undiagnosed narcoleptic.

Sleep is her number one priority. Right after dragging out EVERY toy in her bin.

But, she loves. And loves wholeheartedly. Any given day, she can be found with the kids in their bedrooms. Running alongside them outdoors, waiting for Daddy at the door, jumping into the car so not to be left behind. On a recent trip away, Holly stayed with my parents. The first morning, she slipped out the door and ran… all. the. way. home. My poor mother chasing her in her pajamas! We live less than a mile away and she knew just where she wanted to be…

One year and 76 chew toys later, we still feel we made the right decision. If you are considering a family pet, consider wisely. They are costly, destructive, and endless work. They are also a GIFT. And we are so thankful we found our Holly.

Clever title huh? So we’re talking paint today.

Sherwin Williams hosted one of its 40% off sales this weekend. And I’m not one to say no to savings (staying up into all hours of the night, HGTV only advertised the sale a million times).

It was actually the motivator I needed.

I’ve had the dining/sitting room on the backburner for months now. It is bland, random, and lacking design. I’ve rearranged furniture and played around with paint colors, added new pieces and tried to work with old. {I carried on about this space in our home HERE}

It’s a difficult layout! I also have to work with the red chair, dark couch, upholstered chairs, the painting, and that rug. How does one tie all the hodge podge together? I need a cohesive wall color/treatment to unite the two rooms.

I feel a little cheese-y, but I’m just so proud… the hubby and I graduated with him, and he was been singing as long as we can remember. Josh is already a success at home, anyone that has heard him on his guitar would attest to that. Everyone in our hometown is tuning in to watch Josh… hopefully win it all!

He reminds me that… its so rare to know exactly what you were meant to do in life, to love it, and have the courage to make it your everyday despite all doubts. So much fun to watch Josh follow his passion!

Superfluous, Superficial, and Shellac.

Hello friends.

Its been awhile and its been busy. busy. busy.

Our (my) life is slipping into a routine of non-routine, something always popping up.

I’m preaching to the choir, this I know.

If you know me well, you know that I am queen of rabbit trails. I have full intention to discuss one thing and randomly end up down a completely different road. This post serves as great example. Superfluous and ridiculous information.

First things first. I realize the forums are closed, books clubs have long since moved on, but I just recently finished this book. And I cannot move on. Stop me in my tracks, holed up in a hotel room in Vegas, could not accomplish another daggone thing until it was finished, … that kind of good. Quite possibly one of my favorite books ever. ever. ever.

I went looking for a pair of heels and found resistance futile. At what point does it become excessive? And for those of you tilting your head, questioning my taste… this is tell you… leopard print never goes out of style. Timeless in small doses (ha, like 3 three pairs of shoes!).

This young man lost his trusty Power Wheels John Deere tractor… it finally bit the dust (after years of abuse). And because he’s had a tough time adjusting to his sister being at school, and partly because he has his daddy’s smile, I felt he needed a new mode of transportation. My husband encouraged it, and now heaven help us.

Remember way back, I mentioned something about that Shellac-a-lac? Well I forgot to take updated pictures of my manicure, but I will say this… it lasted 4 WEEKS without a chip. I had growth, but NO chip. So I just had it redone, and while I hate to draw attention to my awkwardly small hands, I am shocked by the nail growth. I love this stuff. LOVE.

Las Vegas, Nevada.

Over the weekend, the hubby and I escaped to the desert.

I’ve found there are generally two camps on it:

1. Viva Las Vegas

2. I don’t gamble, not for me.

In the past, I would claim #2. I’m not a gambler, what else is there to do in the casinos? Thankfully, the hubby knew better. Turns out… Las Vegas is a food haven, an unbelievable destination for fabulous restaurants (and amazing chefs). The options were endless. We chose Charlie Palmer’s Aureole and Michael Mina’s Nobhill Tavern. Both offered exceptional meals with impeccable service… I only slightly preferred Nobhill (mostly because the charming sommelier once worked in Cleveland & our server had an uncanny resemblance to Clark Kent). My lobster pot pie at Nobhill could have served four people… it felt like gluttony. But the desserts at Aureole were perfection.

And then the shows.

Cirque de Soleil’s KA blew our minds. Breathtaking, exhilarating, jaw-dropping. The theatrics & acrobatics were like nothing I had ever seen. The show took four years and cost $165 million to conceive, cast, design, train, and produce. Headed to Vegas? Go to KA. We also took in Cirque de Soleil's Mystere. Holy crazy. It was like acid trip, or at least what I would perceive one to be (no experience there). Hilarious, off the wall, and amazing athleticism. And a little known fact… there are more than 20 former Olympic athletes in the Cirque de Soleil shows!

It was 100 degrees every day in Las Vegas, with nowhere to go but inside. It gave us ample time to shop (oh the torture) and enjoy time together. But after 3 days, I was ready to come home to cool Ohio and see my kiddos.

Immediately, back to reality… a certain little person in our house decided to take their artwork to the walls. No real rest for the weary.

Life is flying by… with the start of school, and activities of all shapes and sizes, I don’t want to miss the little details of our family; the IMPORTANT details. It slows me down, to stop and look back at what we did in a week’s time….

The Demolition Derby. Hands down the most anticipated event of ~~the year~~ our county fair… people come out of the woodwork for this. See below.

… these kids love to watch the cars smash. What’s better than the smell of leaking fuel oil and fair fries? I’m at a loss for words.

We picked up enough of these nuts to fill the bed of a pickup truck. And they just keep dropping.

Those are Easter bunny tissues, in case you were curious. Because I was.

This is personal punishment… mocking safety is on the STRONGLY DISCOURAGED List for parents.

This boy FINALLY started preschool. Where on earth did he get those legs?

And now, onto the weekend…. lucky girl, I get to spend it with this hunky guy.

A Shellac-ing

I have short nails.

{and short squatty fingers, but who’s counting}

Gardening, crafting, painting, dishwashing… its rough on a girls digits.

And as we’re entering the cold season, they were starting to get dry/brittle. Like man hands. Gross.

So I had them Shellac’d.

It seemed like everyone was doing it. Pioneer Woman did it. And that’s reason enough, no?

Granted we’re only on Day 1 of the Shellac manicure, but I LOVE it. The paint was cured on, no drying time. I could instantly rifle through my purse, wash my daughter’s hair, do laundry… without a smudge or smear. The best part, no damage to my real nails (like acrylic or gel). It’s like a gel/polish/color all in one. Unfortunately, the color options for Shellac are limited right now, but I hear there are more on the horizon.

Anxious to see how long it lasts & how well my shorties grow in that time.

Oh, best part? Cost is the same as a regular manicure. Fun, fun, fun.
