thankful.

A little holiday recap…

 

  

  

 

Thanksgiving at my parents home, complete with Pioneer Woman’s mashed potatoes AND her brussel sprouts with basalmic & cranberries (go HERE for the recipe, serious yum).  We ate till we could eat no more and quite nearly skipped on the pumpkin & appleberry pies.  Quite nearly, but not. 

My daddy-o surprised our mom with a little Thanksgiving present… the gorgeous Williams Sonoma tablecloth and platter pictured above.  Lovely.  My rotten sister already staked claim (that’s fine B, I still get Grandmas bread bowl).  We were thankful to be together and grateful for the addition of our niece Piper this year.  I couldn’t resist all those pics of my amazing hubs squeezing that sweet girl.  Who can resist a terribly handsome man holding a baby?  Love.

We’re in a quasi-rental this holiday while the house is being built (quasi because its actually a lovely home owned by family).  I didn’t have the energy to bring out all the fall/thanksgiving trappings.  So with a nod to the lovely (albeit cheap) folks at Target, we grabbed a few dollar aisle items and called it a day. 

In the end, the turkeys & thankful trees should be just that… thankful they weren’t shredded to smithereens and tossed with the coffee grinds.  I’ll maintain composure & say with grace, they were flimsy (at the very least).  I feel guilt each time I look at them; seeing the leaves full of thankful words, and remembering the unsavory string of adjectives muttered during assembly.  It may be best they don’t reappear next year.  The pilgrims will understand.  And I for one, find it completely appropriate that there’s a (toy) gun on the table.
