I may be a woman of extremes.
On Friday, I divulged my love for excessively big tree toppers. And today I will share how to make the most simple of simple garlands. Hot and cold, I digress.
The Simple Garland is perfectly plain. So bare and natural that it is underwhelmingly beautiful. Or in the words of Goldilocks, “It’s just right.”
[Confession: I actually purchased mine at a BIG LOTS a few years back! Gasp! I wish I would have purchased about 10 more of these, which got me to thinking… holy moly I can make this!]
The Simple Garland
What you need:
- Hemp
- Pinecones (various shapes/sizes)
- a sprig of greenery (fake, or real)
- twigs from your backyard (or your neighbors, or any craft store)
- Brown floral wire
- Scissors
Instructions
1. Measure your hemp to the desired length and trim. Be sure to leave room on the ends for hanging.
2. Cut your twigs into 3-4 inches pieces. Bundle a few together with the floral wire. My garland has about 11 bundles, depends on the look you want.
3. Take your sprig of greenery and cut about 5-7 little pieces (see picture below)
4. Attach (randomly) your pinecones, twig bundles, and greenery to hemp string with floral wire. You can add more or less, get creative!
I added a few old star ornaments for a little personalization…
I would love see your version if you make one!
