Games and Winners

Let’s play a little game.  We’ll call it:

‘You Can’t Make This Stuff Up’

I’ll write a  ridiculous statement regarding my ridiculous life, you gasp & feel pity on me.

1.  While sipping coffee with a friend in a very public coffee shop… my son proceeds to swat flies.  Standing up, he swats.  Sitting down, he swats.  Lying on the dirty floor, he swats.  Son finds gnats and squashes them with his bare hand.  I just ignore the fact that we are sitting next to the drive-thru windows.  Is it terribly wrong to pretend you aren’t related to your own child?

2.  Drive to middle of nowhere.  More accurately, drive right into a pile of horse ‘stuff.’  The purpose of the drive  is a much fabled shoe store that closed 16 minutes prior to our arrival.  Sweet, we get to turn around and go back the long way we came.

3.  “Mommy, I shot a buck… can you cook it for me?  And sometime when I go hunting, I’ll shoot the king of the forest.”  Nevermind that I haven’t the foggiest on who’s king of the forest... Eyebrows raise at the child’s attire: skintight camo bottoms, a putrid green fleece dinosaur shirt,  enormous white athletic socks with holes, a camo fishing hat, and a blue mardi gras necklace.  [Cue banjo music]

4. Son bites daughter.  Daughter throws herself onto bed in anguish.  Have mental debate, can humans have rabies?  Does daughter need a tetanus shot?  How much would it cost to fly to Tahiti and stay… for a month?

That’s all I can muster today.  We’ll play again soon.

  .  .  .  .  .

OK...is it sad that I read the winner and commented before I read the post? I can relate to the post and you have my pity. Life...it's crazy.

If that's all you've got for us to feel pity on you, consider yourself blessed my friend. Besides these are the easy years. Just wait til aliens invade their bodies when they hit puberty. Thank you for the smiles today. King of the for-esttt (was the Lion in the Wizard of Oz!) Love your son's hunting attire.

Your Friend,
Deborah
