Cherry Blossom Chandelier : A Tutorial

DSC_0386

For my daughter’s Fairy Party, we used a Cherry Blossom Chandelier to add a little whimsy; perfect touch.  I stole the idea and actual chandelier from my little sister’s wedding…

Now that the wedding… and birthday party… are over, the chandy found a new home in my daughter’s bedroom.  It is sweet, sparkly, and right out of a little girls imagination.  I thought I’d share a quick tutorial on making your very own.  For your daughter, your dressing room, or any party!  It is an inexpensive & easy project.

Cherry Blossom Chandelier

What you need:

-Ribbon (a few yards)
-18’ diam. Wooden quilt/embroidery hoop (no more than $2 at any craft store; can purchase any size!)
-30 Faux cherry blossom sprigs (any flower; buy a few bunches and cut single stems!)
-Hot Glue/Gun
-Crystals (you can either purchase pre-made crystal strings in the jewelry section of your craft store; or string your own using different crystals/beads to save money)
-Scissors

Instructions:

1.  Trim your flower sprigs to the desired length (you can go short or long).   My sprigs were about 15  in. long.

2. Hot glue the flowers onto the wooden craft ring, hanging the flowers downwards.  You may choose to make your chandy more full by adding more; I chose to space my flowers about 1 1/2 inches apart (using 30 sprigs).  You can also staple these for security!

3. Decide how low you would like your chandy to hang from the ceiling.  Cut 3 pieces of ribbon to your measurement.  If you want extra ribbon to hang down at the top, add about 6-8 inches to your measurement.    Set aside.

4.  Measure circumference of the ring and cut a single piece of ribbon to wrap around it.  Hot glue that piece of ribbon around the ring, covering the ends of the flowers.

5.  Take the 3 pieces of ‘hanging’ ribbon you cut and space them equidistant on the wooden ring.  Hot glue the bottom ends of ribbon around the ring.

6.   Take your crystal strings (or beads) and tie them around individual flowers, letting them hang down just further than the flowers. (yes, my fingers are that short and fat).

7.  You are finished!  To hang your chandelier, you can either tie your hanging ribbons on a ceiling hook; or, simply tack the ribbons together to the ceiling (don’t tell your husbands I told you this!)

Just a few ideas….

* Hang varying lengths of ribbon next to the flowers
* Clip sparkly butterflies onto the crystal strings
* Make a miniature version and clip your daughters’ hair bows onto the ribbons/crystal strings!  You could hang it in her closet.

This is incredible! I think I am going to make something similar to hide an ugly light fixture in our garage entry/laundry/utility hall. Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow, I love the fact that this is so easy, yet so sophisticated looking. Great job. Now, how can I fit this into my house full of boys?
